I have Maytag washer/dryer vintage 1994. My first issue was a few years ago in the washer. It would stop mid cycle. By taking the cover off the timer/cycle area I got access to a bunch of switches. Spade electrical connections allowed me to simply disconnect after making a digital photo to make sure I could get it all back together correctly. Took it to a great local parts/repair shop, and they checked each of the 6 or so switches and found one bad. Cost $2.50. Unscrewed old switch, replaced with new switch, hooked up electrical connections, ran perfectly. Or I could have done like most and thrown out the old unit....
Dryer was not moving correctly. With help from this board, I removed the front face, found a cracked plastic pulley, replaced and cleaned up all the lint inside the unit, and now running perfectly!
I'm going to hang onto these units as long as I can because appliance companies are building to an 8 year life now. I'm thinking I can get a couple more 8 year lifetimes out of this now. We'll see. Then I'll likely be looking at Speed Queen as a durable alternative. Would like to go Green, but not seeing durable alternatives.
