I suspect the disposable income of the typical NASCAR fan is tied far closer to the general economic health of the country/globe than that of the typical F1 fan.

And it may have to do with the desired viewing accommodations of a NASCAR fan versus an Indy race fan. I was a guest at Michigan International Speedway early this year to view the results of their Fall 2001 repaving project. What surprised me was to see the speedway removing bleacher seats to install viewing patios for use by fans who travel by RV. Constant renovation to match the changing tastes of their fan base.
