One of my ski posse is a master electrician and will do it for free, so I just have to buy some wire and appropriate switch. Just never seem to get around to it.
I presently throw the switch at the circuit board to disconnect from the street, plug one end of the 8 or 10 gauge line (forget which it is) into the plug for the clothes dryer and the other end into the 220V outlet on the generator. From throwing the switch to lights on is <5 minutes, including rolling out the generator and running the cable from the dryer plug through garage and down the driveway.
I have written directions for my wife or daughters to follow if I'm not here. And they've tried it, too. And a neighbor could do it if necessary.
