They do not sell hot air. They do not get government grants on researching why oil use is good. In fact, out of the $4 or so a gallon we pay at the pump, Exxon only gets about $0.08-0.10; the rest is licensing fees paid to various governments for bringing oil out of the ground, refining it, bringing to the pump, and more government taxes at the pump, each of which is far more than Exxon's profit. Why is Exxon's margin so low? because people buy gasoline at their own volition and have other vendors to choose from.
In the red-"green" business however propaganda and coercion are the core business. There is no fixed capital cost like oil companies do. The raid expansion of global warming research in various colleges and universities in recent years should give you a hint just how big this intellectual cancer has become. It is no more scientific than the church-government sponsored debate on how many angels could dance at the tip of a pin a thousand years ago, yet because of the coercive funding numerous young and old minds were/are wasted on the nonsense.
