My searches about Subarus kinda bear out what you say, and they are pretty pricey even with a lot of miles on them. And they are gas hogs.
I really want to keep the price for this to a max of $3500 (including repairs), since that's an amount she can afford to pay us back. Obviously I'd like to spend less. That's how we did it for the first cars for the kids and it seems to work for us, since I'm a decent wrench and we have an awesome indy.
I thought about the leasing part, although I doubt we'll go that way. Too pricey when you add in taxes, registration, insurance, etc.
I'm thinking I'll continue to assure my neighbors that I'm as crazy as they think and just get another Saab. Much as I prefer the 9Ks, good ones are very thin on the ground and I'm thinking a '99 to '02 OG 9-3 with service records would be the way to go. And the prices are low making them a great value for the money if I find a good one.
