So I keep living as a free agent. And while I can do what I do for a long time yet, I don't want to do so. I have some decent clients who trust me, keep coming back for more and are mostly fun to work with. But if I was sentenced to go someplace everyday and work for someone I'd go right off the deep end. I see guys in their 50s or my age or a bit older who are doing the employee thing and know they are there because they have to be. Well, I can't stop either, but I'm going for quality of work/life balance, and for me at least it ain't working for a salary, as appealing as that idea can be at times.
I know a guy who's 44. Is between jobs and needs work. He has things he'd rather do, and could do, to make a living. But he won't make the leap. I keep prodding him.
We all have to make our own way in the world and sometimes things really suck, but it's important to do something you enjoy at least a big part of the time, especially if you have to do it to keep the wolf from the door, build the nest egg, etc.
