Or so a couple of airline pilot friends tell me. They actually do this when ferrying a plane from one place to another when there are no passengers aboard. They say it works and is really spooky to watch all the controls move on their own. Local air traffic control still needs a pilot, but the rest of it can already be automated.

But I wouldn't trust it.
