Combined with direct injection the modern day turbo-4 creates diesel-like torque. I hate Japanese throttle tip-in when you are rolling there is no umph compared to when throttle tip-in from a stop. They must have the torque converter lockup as soon as the rpms rise as once you are moving the throttle is non responsive in the 2.5l. Japanese have been doing well before the 1990's when I first drove a Camry. The GF's 2012 Forester does similarly.
