Was wondering what everyone’s most memorable moment with their SAAB is. Maybe you smoked an Aryan ueber-mobile away from a light, maybe just a cruise along the coast, etc.
I’ve had more than a few but one sticks out: driving to San Francisco from Santa Cruz along PCH just after Christmas 2002 with my wife and two sons – one less than three months old and one less than 20 months old. A huge Pacific storm is literally blowing us around along with very heavy rain.
From the squeaking in the back seat and the aroma, we knew they both had pant loads that needed to be changed. This presented a problem because of the heavy rain and because we had always used the cargo deck in our 9-3 as a changing table on roadtrips (those clever Swedes think of everything!). No way we could do it our usual way in the pouring rain.
We pulled over and my wife and I had a debate: which one gets soaked to go to the trunk to get the diaper bag and which one hops into the back seat to do the dirty work on two babies? I got the diaper bag and got soaked; my wife ended up on diaper duty, but we ended up with two happy and decent smelling kids for the balance of the drive to SF.
Another one was driving those same two boys from the Tillamook Dairy on the Oregon Coast a few years back with monster ice cream cones contentedly in their hands as we drove south along US 101 in our 2010 9-3. Sunny day, windows down, and the smell of the ocean (not diapers!) in the air…
