When I was tuning my 1995 Saab 900 SET.
I bored out [egg shelled] the throttle transition casting, modified the air box etc. Plus suspension mods.
Conceived the MBA+A and worked with Jeff in Atlanta who made one up, tested and sold kits. This allowed boost to come on very fast and there was no boost droop as one gets with a standard MBC. This was a fundamental improvement in manual boost controllers. The +A refers to adding an anticipator to the MBC. The anticipator is a pressure regulator, sensitive a low pressures, that applies a preload pressure to the waste gate actuator [WGA]. As boost increases the preload allows the WGA to respond faster, preventing pressure overshoots [aka spikes] that cause fuel cuts. The problem is that the boost comes on very fast and a standard MBC cannot respond fast enough.
Prior to that, I created a pnuemo-adjustable dump valve to dump the boost pressure overshoots/spikes that one gets with a MBC. This allowed for a boost pressure tap for the MBC from the throttle body. This worked great until a guy in a SUV drove into the back of my Saab in a sun rise glare traffic stoppage [rip]. After this I my involvement was hands off with the MBC+A.
