I think unless you have the exact same event with and without a helmet, it's hard to say what would have happened the other way. Way back before I wore a helmet, I had a full speed head on with a pickup that turned left in front of me. I shattered the windshield with my bare head, flipped over the top and landed on the other side. I had a minor concussion but no lasting damage (ha ha so far as I know). If I had that collision with a helmet, I'd probably say it saved my life. That said, if I had it to do over again, I'd wear a helmet.

As to bike lanes, I think many of them are disasters waiting to happen.

The 6D looks interesting but it would have to be much different before anyone would wear one for road biking.
