Some time ago, I did a little internet research on this whole "Better tires in the rear" thing. What it amounted to was that in certain specific circumstances, the test vehicle (FWD mini van) could be made to spin out more easily with bald tires in the rear. The circumstances in question required standing water, a fairly sharp curve, and too high a speed for the road conditions. The tires used were a new pair, and a pair with the minimum allowable tread (what most of us here on Saabnet would have replaced long ago). Just another scare tactic bullet point taken somewhat out of context that has been accepted as gospel under ALL circumstances.
