Well, my insurance company valued my 2005 9-2X Aero with 95,000 miles at $10,200 and estimated that it would cost more to repair so they totaled it. I had the 9-2X Sport Gauges Pack installed which was a $700 item out of the Saab 9-2X accessories catalog and tried to get them to include that in the value, but although the claims adjustor submitted it, it was rejected. I had the opportunity to buy it back for $1,400 but the the body shop estimated the repairs at $8,300 and then came back again with a new estimate of $8,700 and even then the service manage wasn't sure they would not find even more damage when they went in to fix it... so I went down and cleaned out my personal belongs, even taking the Saab logo'ed valve stem caps... I gripped the wheel one last time, remembering what a fantastic car it had been for us and how reliable it had been over all those miles... such a fun car to drive... I drove my daughter home in that car from the hospital when she was born... and said goodbye.
The story has a happy ending though. I went looking for a new used 9-2X Aero... From what I can tell, only about 2,000 9-2X Aero's were made in the two year production run and 7,000 Linears. I saw one modded 9-2X Aero with a new engine with 133,000 miles on eBay get 60 bids and end just over $10,000, it did not meet the reserve price and wasn't sold. I saw another listed that also had a new engine with less than 10k miles on it with 103,000 miles listed for $9,000. I asked and got some photos but eventually the post was taken down by the seller... Looking at things like AutoTrader were not helpful (6 listed nationwide) - 66,000 miles for $19,500, 148,000 for $12,000, 175,000 for $4,850 etc... I kept looking and spotted a very well maintained (by a car nut who even used it for TSD rallying and even some rallycross) He had it tuned to stage 1 for awhile and it comes with the tuning equipment. Oil changes every 3,000 miles, he did the 15,000 mile services at the 30,000 mile service too. It has 53,000 miles, on it, Arctic Silver, and the premium package (leather seats, xenon lights, etc...). But I lose the sport package which means no 17 inch rims with low profile performance tires and sunroof... the interior looks like it's brand new. The exterior has very minor flaws and it's been garage kept its whole life. Negotiated a price of $8,100. Put down a deposit to hold the car and had a local Saab friend look at it and take it for a drive and he gave it a full thumbs up. Agreed to purchase and now I'm working on figuring out a road trip with my 8 year-old daughter from CO to CA to bring it back home.
