Furthermore in the US so many laws are originated and written on the behalf of parties who ultimately benefit - and in too many cases it's not the consumer who benefits. Lobbyists spend untold billions courting entertaining influencing law makers and the legislative process. I'd be shocked in places like PA if the automotive repair industry doesn't have a lobbyist working to ensure state inspections continue. When I was in PA beer sales were largely limited to state run beer sales - at fixed prices which closed the door to competition. Excuses such as selling beer in supermarkets would result in increased rates of alcoholism - total bs and the consumer had to pay more to support inefficient state run beer stores.
