I have never had good experiences with Dell from a consumer point of view. Their B2B is reasonably solid, but unless you've got a corporate account or a reseller agreement with them, it seems you're treated like dirt. I had one job as an low-level IT guy and it was literally my job to stay on hold with Dell. The entire company (over 100 workstations) was outfitted with various Dell PCs and servers, and they died one at a time, about once every two weeks. We paid our service contract, and every Tuesday and Thursday I came into work and spent 3-6 hours on hold or talking to their tech support trying to make them acknowledge we needed an RMA. It was a PITA, the support was terrible, and the "techs" they contracted with for repair were, by and large, little better than trained apes. My dad bought two of his sytems from Dell in the '80s (a 286 desktop and a 386 laptop) and both were solid computers. But they have truly gone downhill since then...
