Saab Automobile AB strengthen management team
Saab Automobile has recently successfully launched the new 9-3 Sport Sedan which marks the start of the biggest product offensive in Saab’s history. To accelerate the effort to return to sustainable profit levels the company today announced management changes. Gregory S. Deveson was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Lars Olsson will assume full time responsibility for all VLE activities.
Effective November 1, Gregory (“Greg”) S. Deveson is named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Saab Automobile AB. He will lead the Engineering, Manufacturing, Powertrain and Purchasing areas, reporting to Peter Augustsson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Saab. The other parts of the company will continue to report to Augustsson directly.
Greg Deveson (40) joins Saab Automobile from GM in Michigan, where he was Manufacturing Manager – Transmissions, in charge of 15,000 employee in nine plants, which includes oversight of GM’s Powertrain facility in Strasbourg. Deveson’s area of work has also included responsibility for product development. He joined GM in 1979 in the former Fisher Body division, and occupied numerous senior leadership positions in Vehicle Manufacturing and GM Powertrain, including several assignments as Plant Manager in the US and Canada. Greg holds a Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering from Kettering University in Michigan, as well as a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Indiana
In a further effort to add strength to the Saab product offensive, Lars Olsson, who successfully oversaw the high quality launch of the new 9-3 as head of TDC, will now assume full time responsibility for all VLE activities at Saab, including future product programs in his new role.
“Now that we have successfully launched our new 9-3 Sport Sedan, and in addition to our ongoing program to improve the financial performance, we are putting increased emphasis on further strengthening the Saab management team,” said Peter Augustsson. “Greg will focus on further improving the quality and efficiency of our operations and Lars will ensure that our continued product offensive will be as successful as the launch of the 9-3 Sport Sedan. This will allow me to spend considerably more time on the revenue side of the business. Taken together with the appointment last week of Joseph G. Peter as CFO we are creating a very strong management team.”
“We are adding a lot of drive to Saab’s all-encompassing plan to grow the business and deliver sustainable profits,” commented Michael J. Burns, President of GM Europe. “Greg and Joe join the Saab leadership team at an exciting time when the brand is poised for growth. Their broad experience on the operating side of the business, along with the momentum Lars Olsson has built up in the product offensive will help Saab reach its full potential in the premium segments.”
