Got a question..not a challenge..just a Question. Why is it that people on the Saab Network constantly discuss debate and generally don't trust the guys who Made the car..but instead, rely on hearsay..or "My buddy says"..etc. This applies to coolant, transmission oil, engine oil, and all other fluids.
Every Manual I have ever seen gives an SAE Spec, API Spec, Mil Spec and so on. If what you buy conforms to this Spec, what is the concern of the Brand Name or Manufacturer. I fully understand the head scratching when the car has been modified for special purposes...Rally, Autocross, Drag Racing, etc...then you are on your own. Guess why i'm wondering about this is that I spent 20 years in USAF Aircraft Maintenance, and as long as our hdraulic fluid met MIL SPEC 5606..it was not important who made it, what color it was, or the governments price variance on it. We used it on 15 million dollar aircraft: my personal take on these things is proper maintenance at or before scheduled intervals recommended by the manufacturer. All answers are welcome..Good Saabin!
