Well as much as it all sucks at least your lucky that way. I think things may have changed but at one time I am pretty sure either 25+ or 30+ over in WI was a 15 day automatic suspension regardless of overall points (even if you were below the normal point limit). If you had too many points you could also be revoked for a longer period. And back then I don't think there was any sort of program to reduce points for traffic school (that has changed).
BTW when I said plead guilty or no contest I didn't necessarily mean not to work a plea if you can. Just that trial doesn't make sense unless you really have a case and that you should play straight and if things don't seem to be falling into place screw it. You may or may not have a chance to talk with the DA before you enter a plea. If you can't talk to the DA before you enter a plea you might even consider pleading not guilty knowing you won't let it go to trial. In most cases you will probably get a chance to plea to something lesser (at least lesser points)*. But then again there is no guarentee you'll make out better and it could even work against you. So if you don't just put it in the hands of the judge make sure you understand the process of your court and have some idea what you want to achieve (be realistic).
*Note: But it important to know how your court works. Based on some of the posts here and in the past it sounds almost like some states might have a trial for traffic offenses on the same date as the plea date? Is this actually true? Doesn't sound like an effienct way to run a court. If so and the officer is on site it may well work against you. If the trial will be conducted on a date different from the plea date you will be in a stronger position since they will never have to pull the officer off the street and into the court if they can arrange a guilty plea of some sort.
