As an owner of a 9-3 Convertible, I do have to agree with you about reliability issues. I have had my share of problems, however my 9-3 is based on a very old platform. The all new 9-3SS has been a hit with the press, and the 9-5 Aero beat out the A4, CTS, amd Jag in a recent Road & Track test. And these are based on relatively new platforms, the 9-5 has been pretty reliable.
I lease my car, as I like to have a new vehicle in my driveway. However, since you are looking at 10 years, I would get a vehicle that is at the start of its life-cycle. The 9-3SS and A4 fit that criteria. BMW will revamp the 3 series in 2005, as will Saab with the 9-5. I'd avoid the CTS and Jag.
I would choose between the 9-3SS Vector or the A4 3.0. If age doesn't bother you, the 9-5 Aero is a very sweet ride as well. You'll get the best deal with any Saab you choose, but they will likely lose more value than the Audi or BMW, so if you are cncerned about what you'll get for your ride 10 years from now, perhaps the Audi is your best choice.
Just stay away from the CTS and Jag!
Good Luck
