These panther chassis cars are barely made with passengers in mind, let alone drivers. Indeed, Crown Vics have been fleet purchase only, and Grand Marquis have been special order only for the last few years. Ford doesn't even want the average consumer to know they still make these things!
Fleet customers (Police, government, livery, taxi) are interested in certain levels of durability, space, and comfort, and beyond that they don't WANT these cars to change. Many of these organizations have millions of dollars of inventory to keep these cars going, and any significant changes are nothing but a headache for them in terms of parts and training. A large PD, taxi, or livery company is going to have a 24 hour facilities to keep these beasts on the road. Your going to change the oil about every 2 weeks for a busy taxi, to put maintenance in perspective.
A normal consumer wants the latest and greatest technology, but these customers actually want the opposite!
I actually kind of get a kick out of the rental Grand Marquises, but I do understand why people would resent rental car companies still forcing these things on people.
