I'd agree with what Autoblog says about Hyundai & Kia coming a long way - the comparison point I assume is current with their initial entry points in the US market. And yes their MSRP has risen as well - perhaps too much recently but they are continuing to grow sales and market share.
Hyundai/Kia is focused on a different segment of the market than those consumers such as Euro buyers that place high priority on driving dynamics such as handling and superior responsiveness. They focus on providing a long (10yr/100k) warranty, high reliability (in past 5 ~7 yrs or so) excellent safety ratings and a good number of standard features and models which appeal to a lot of younger buyers.
I find the Hyundai Sante Fe we bought in 2013 for $30k to be well equipped and with sufficient power from a turbo 4 - it's certainly much quieter and more comfortable to travel in than my 2004 ARC - the ACC is much much better. It does have some cons - fuel mileage and the rear suspension has limited travel and the steering is numb.
IMO though Autoblog isn't really fond of the Korean makers and their reviews reflect that
