There was a lot of noise about the ebay intercoolers being junk and 'made of old tin cans' but people started getting them and trying them out having just as much success as the more notable IC's brands. Despite the fact that there are 100's dyno charts to show that they are as effective as brand name ic's, some people maintain the myth they are junk.
----------------------
the myth of these types of IC's is being fed also from shops who sell "brand name" IC's and a good example of this is from the Swedish saab forum where they removed and banned a group buy where people where going to order IC's direct from China. The reason for the removal was the one site sponsor got irritated over the issue that poeple buying IC's that are know to work for fraction of the price what IC's normally cost. Maybe one should fix their own price levels and manufacturing process rathar than trying to stop the inevitable.
In my case the positive problem has been that the cheepo China IC does not only match the performance of a normal brand name IC to saab, it seems to play in a diffent legue so to say. Up to this date I have personally tested many cars and have also many other measurenments from various saab with various IC's and the typical temperature raise during a 4th pull (100-200km/h) is most often > 20deg C.

Also even though it a good size, it's a tube and fin design and is more susetable to bent fins than a bar and plate design (from what I understand, for a given core size tube and fin cools a bit better and bar and plate flows a bit better).
------------
There is alot of info around the net which type of IC core design is the most optimal and provides results, but as we know the cores internally are not the same thus categorized as BAP,TAF etc.
I have tested a few TAF IC's and honestly there has been both junk and good ones.
IMHO being the IC made by whom ever with what ever techique it should be tested one way or the to verify that it works.
