It seems that in many cases the after market stuff with their marketing flyers are taken for granted and as the "happy" news travel around in the forums far too few bother to guestion their need nor performance factor anymore. The situation seems to be the same when the topic comes to individual products from different supliers, ie. what works and what does not.

I ran into this last fall when I was in a quest for a bigger IC after the unit at that time became too small for my need. Asked around for possibilities and got a list of saab tuners who sell IC's which all of know that work great. However dispite looking through all the websites there was no actual results besides some irrelevant marketing numbers, which really dont help to get to the bottom does IC really work good or not. Most of the end users where able to tell that the IC they have from saab company x work great, but when asked how do you know and how good there werent many who could answer it, but they knew.

Well after doing some research over the topic I got interested in "China" IC's mainly because of their price, which in some cases is about 1/4 of the cost of a saab tuner IC. So again back to forums to ask if somebody has experience from these IC's, how they work aso.
Many of people who replied knew that they dont work, the quality is poor and one should more or less stay away from them, but once again when it was time to lay out some actual numbers no one seemed to have them. In the end it came down more or less to it that the people how had replied negative had "heard" or "though" they cant work since they are made in China and the pricing is too low for them be of any quality (low price = crap).

Well I knew that allot of the companies in western coutries do cast and machine products in China, so there is no base for the thought that a good IC could not be made in China...

Well despite warnings I bought me a 200E China IC, which came nicely packed, looked good with a BAP core which to my eye looked like any other "quality" BAP core on the market. So I installed the IC and started testing it and the results could have not been better.

here is on example

To interpret the IC efficiency, this text from Bells site may come handy
if one is not familiar with it.
---------------
What ranges of efficiency can be expected from an intercooler?
A typical air-to-air intercooler for a street application achieves between 60% and 70% efficiency, an excellent/optimum design for road racing can approach close to 90% efficiency, but requires an adequate "budget!”
----------------

excellent/optimun desing in my case = first suitable size IC I found and tossed it the nose of the car.

adequate budget = 200E for IC and some euros for clamps and coulings.

Of course this nor the filter test cannot be widely be copied around, they apply to 9-3 and to products I have tested.
