is that they are simply too expensive for what you get. Really, I don't think that most people would be upset at having either car, but you can buy an Aero much cheaper than a similarly equiped 530. Much cheaper. You really have to compare similarly equipped cars. And I also don't like BMW's "better than thou" attitude that the local dealers have.

Another thing with BMW is that their back seats are small (i.e., close to the front seat). The Aero has more room than a 5-series (supposedly the 5-series has LESS leg room than the three-series!).

I also don't think that Saab has inferior build quality. In fact, I think it's the opposite (see JD Powers). I do think that BMW uses higher quality parts, but you're paying through the nose for them.

As for price, the Aero is 40,875 as per Edmunds (w/o auto). The 530i, somewhat similarly optioned (no sport package or anything) is almost 45k. Add in a sport package and nice leather, and you're up to 50k. And that's really what you'll pay, whereas you won't pay retail for the Saab.

And, you need the electronics in order for the BMW to be a good snow car. Personally, I like being able to punch the gas and have the rear end kick out, but this can be problematic over snowy roads.

Additionally, I find the instruments in the Saab very legible and the night panel (in my 9-3) is awesome. The BMWs are hard to read.

If you think that the Aero feels like a Grand Am, you've obviously never driven a Grand Am.

I agree with you about the less road noise, wind noise, smoother engine, and better suspension. However, it's not worth an extra realistic price of 5-10k for me. I'd rather have 5k in the bank (or borrow 5k less).
