Enjoy the debate you are having with redirector.
I have a `00 540 6-speed and a `01 9-5 Aero auto. You are right on the money in your assessment of both vehicles. Here's adding my 2 cents. BMW has much better leg support for hard cornering; 9-5 has no left leg support for hard right corners. BMW window glass seems thicker. BMW stereo tuned for delicate classical music and lacks bass as compared to Saab HK system; I added a subwoofer to improve the BMW sound system. BMW key fob transmitter much more powerful than Saab's key transmitter. BMW interior has motion detector triggered alarm while I don't think the Saab has such a security feature. BMW has one-touch up and down windows and one-touch sunroof; Saab has one-touch down windows only. Saab 4-banger sometimes buzzes and you can see rear view mirror shake. Saab SID computer does not have trip timer/elapsed timekeeper but BMW does -- I find this a useful feature. Interior of sheetmetal in BMW meticulously coated with thick damping material and wires carefully wrapped and rattle isolated; Saab interior sheetmetal not so carefully finished. BMW doors heavy, vault-like; Saab's a little thinner, lighter. Saab corners harder than the heavier BMW. This isn't a fair comparison, but the BMW 8-cylinder with manual transmission accelerates like a bat out of h---. There's no way around the adage -- you get what you pay for. Both fun to drive.
BTW, I got $7000 off window sticker on the Saab when I purchased it in November 2001. Saab really shoots itself in the foot when it posts such an inflated, imaginary MSRP on its window sticker. I'm sure most buyers are not aware of these massive discounts and simply walk away without ever making an offer.
