I agree that the current 9-5 console is bad. I think the flip-out cupholder if ok, except that drips go on the dash. There should be 2 of those things. Using the 2nd cupholder in the console requires the armrest to be up, which sometimes gets in the way when shifting. Then there's the issue of storage. If you use the 2nd cupholder in the console, that leaves virtually zero storage space in the entire console area. There's not even a space large enough to put a pair of sunglasses. The lack of storage space is the biggest annoyance to me. Every other car that I looked at has a more useful console than the 9-5. I really wish Saab has done a better job in this area. My vote is to move the ignitioin switch to the dash, the window switches to the doors, and put in a useful console.
If anyone has been in an Oldsmobile Aurora, that car strikes me as having a well designed dash and console, both in terms of looks and storage.
