He just made a factual comment that cupholders were not a major design concern when European car manufacturers developed their cars, until the mid to late '90s. Mercedes didn't start putting cupholders in their cars until the late 90s, etc. He just used the 911 as an analogy-at least that's my take on it.

That someone would *ever* place their car buying priority based on size and design of cupholders just emphasizes the mentality of the general car buying public in the US. The emphasis should be on the art of driving but is being replaced by the design of creature comforts.

Ranks right up there with the "bigger/more is better" mentality, which is the raison d'etre of the Excursion, Suburban, etc. That the Chrysler minivan has something like 14 cupholders, does that make it a great car? I think not.

I agree about the (current) Accord's storage bins. But Honda didn't incorporate the key in the center console, nor did they integrate the center console with the main dash (like the 9-5). The Accord's dash is rather flat, with the center console detached from the dash (allowing for storage space forward of the transmission. Also, the Accord does not have rear vents mounted in the center console, so that allows a larger armrest/center console for lots of CDs and such. SAAB should've just put a large, folding center armrest with storage inside.
