My best advice to you, now living in Canada after growing up in Nebraska and living in Colorado for several years, is to just adjust your speed, stopping distance, etc. to the current conditions. If you want the extra piece of mind and the ability to do 60+ mph, then get snows. The best in the world are made by the Finns (Hakka...something like that). Many of my club compatriots swear by them and do some ridiculous things with their Saabs in winter conditions. I personally have never ran snows, but have kept my H rated Pirelli's on during the winter and have never encountered any problems what so ever.
Saabs are truly a great winter car and they are very popular in mountain country such as Colorado and Vermont, etc. Just remember to take it easy, allow extra distance to stop and pump the brakes if it is pre-ABS, and remember that you may know how to drive in the funny white stuff but that doesn't mean that anyone else does. Good luck!
