And about clutching down, don't get over aggressive with it (like when you downshift just for fun in the summertime), but rather do it so that you do not cause unneccessary tire spin. Spin=bad, rolling=good ;o) In 6-8in of fresh still-falling pow I downshifted too quickly on a decline once at a mere 20mph and instantly found myself going backward down the hill....
If you can find a desolate parking lot, "push" the car a little and get the feel for what it can/cannot do and how it behaves. Remember, too, that the car will self-recover from many situations if you don't fight it.
