I don't care what kind of tires you have, you really need to just slow down in the snow, like it or not. Of course winter tires (or simply new tires with full tread) will help keep you from getting stuck or sliding too much, but when there is snow, or God forbid, ice/freezing rain, not much will help you when it comes to stopping except thinking ahead and driving slow.
Last rules of thumb - 1) stay off the brakes in the snow, and most importantly 2) stay away from other drivers! You might trust yourself in these conditions, but you can't trust all those other idiots out there driving too fast and smashing into everybody.
