As a Saab sales guy, I have to present another side to this issue...We have had a lot of folks coming in to our shop during the GM promotion looking for full Kelley Blue trade values on their cars. This is a good thing for the consumer, because people should educate themselves before any major purchase. That said, however, there is a disclaimer on the KBB website regarding "market conditions". Simply put, if we are negotiating against full sticker, we generally allow a much more generous trade figure, such as KBB average. With the heavy discounts, however,a dealer often cannot allow that much money on a trade-in. This is a "market condition". Additionally, SUV owners are looking to bail out of their vehicles, and are upset when the trade value is not what they had been "told" it would be. Gas is the issue...another market condition. The key to any deal is to examine the cash difference, not the actual trade value. This is the amount against which tax is calculated and which is financed. No matter how it gets sliced, it all comes down to that figure. As for your financing issue, I'm not even going to go near that one...but the trade value for your '99 convertible isn't all that unrealistic given the reality we have right now. Better luck next time, and have a wonderful weekend!
