Ok I'm going to have to call you on that one.
Do you really expect people to "negotiate against full sticker?" Anyone who buys a domestic for anywhere near sticker probably didn't do their homework and is the car salesman's dream. Is it completely unreasonable to buy a new car for a few percentage points above invoice and also get a reasonable trade-in value for your car? From what you have said you can only have one or the other. Offering a lower trade-in and calling it "market conditions" is just an excuse to make more money. That's your job, I'm not faulting you for it. The strange pricing practices in the car industry are the only place I know of where there is so much negotiation and variety in pricing. Imagine haggling over a new plasma TV and asking Best Buy to take your old one for 30-40% of what you paid for it a few years ago. Now that I think about it, my last 4 car purchases were either through Saab military sales at a fixed price, or my MDX which I paid halfway between invoice and sticker and felt lucky so I guess I have a bias against negotiations and trade-ins.
