Low ball trade unrealistic Saab sales bro.... I hear you fellow Saab sales brother, but realistically, your word, $4,500 is a "low ball" for a 99 9-3 Vert. And I will go near where you won't go, $600 for a lease payment needs some explaination by the dealer.
You and I know what happened to JamieZ. The salesman could be all nice and low pressure because there was a mandatory "T.O." (turn over) to the "next level" person or the closer, team leader, manager, what ever. That guy tried to test JamieZ to see if he was a real buyer by low balling him on his trade and high balling him on the payments. Wrong tactic on the wrong customer. While I appreciate the tactics of the closer, if JamieZ had been a true buyer the closer expected JamieZ to counter offer and try and negotiate and then the closers numbers would leave some room to compromise.
Very "old world" sales tactics Saturn folks would say, and very adverse to many consumers (nah, almost all consumers) although the hard T.O. is a fixture of a Saturn style sale, that's not what soured JamieZ on the deal, it was the low ball/highball that chased him away.
I woulda' evaluated JamieZ's Vert realistically as any Saab dealer could use an inexpensive Vert, they're good merchandise, realistically at $6k+, all things being equal, and maybe as much as $9-10k for a nice low mileage automatic SE, and I woulda' given him a figure that I would buy the car for the dealer whether he wanted to trade it in or not, as like I said, it's good merchandise for a Saab dealer.
Then I woulda' sat him down and written up him sample payments on the cars he drove or the car he wanted for him to take with him to consider. Yes it could have been $600 easily with little down or negative equity, but it could have easily have been $400-500 with some cash or equity going in. With GM pricing, there's no negotiating so why be afraid to give him written numbers to take with him.
After all that JamieZ woulda' had a demo, a trade evaluation, and realistic numbers to give serious consideration to, maybe even to agree to.
