Problem (1)You have to be willing to do good engineering to build a reliable high powered forced four. Problem (2) There is that mentality thing you mention. First the mentality of the people making the decisions needs to change then the mentality of the general public needs to change which is hard to do if you can't take car of problem #1 let alone #2.

However, I wonder if we might not be on the brink of change. It is an idea that once again makes ever-clearer sense. Gas prices are again surging and supplies are tightening but people still want reasonably sized and powered vehicles. Engine build quality and durability has never been higher. The biggest American car company now owns 100% of the leader in highly reliable Turbo charged passenger cars and has put them in change of pressurized engine development for the corporation. If we can just get sufficient numbers of people to drive cars such as the Aero (or any modern SAAB for that matter) I think turbo charging will get the respect and consideration it deserves.
