While the American Car companies do subscribe to the thought of bigger is better. They have tried to go with turbo power, the problem with this was that they had no experience and the turbo motors while powerful where not reliable. For example pontiac produce turbo power sunbirds and grand prixs. The sunbirds engine (a 2.0 four) put out about 150 hp but was constantly breaking down. The grand prix used a turbo system from MacLeren(spelling) and was pretty succesful with it but again reliability issues killed the motor. Chrysler used turbo 4s on some of their cars without much success. So the thinking that the Americans are blind to the power of turbos is plain wrong. Could they have improved the motors sure but why when they could shove out other motors without turbos that remained semi-reliable. Remember 1st and foremost they are interested in money everything else is secondary.
