Speaking merely from my personal experiences, the 1990 9000 that I own (with the 2.0 DI turbo engine) is very powerful yet very fuel efficient. In terms of power, I've beaten every Maxima, Intergra and Lexus that I've raced. In terms of fuel efficiency, I usually get between 27 and 34 MPG. My 1989 base 900 (with the 2.0 non-DI non-turbo engine) was much less powerful, yet the highest fuel rating I ever got in it was around 28.
