Europe does it
VW does it
Trucks do it
Ford is going to do it
Come on saab, you already have the history of the turbo charger for cars. put that technology to work in a TDI format. Build a 9-5 with a TDI that is more fuel efficient and more economically sound then any other mid/lux car on the market. MB does it! Granted the US has a horrible misconception about diesels and how they must just pour out black smoke, but even ford is going to take the risk and start putting TDI's in ranger and explorer sized vehicles. There is no reason why Saab can't *pioneer* the market segment for the 9-5 class vehicle. Within 5 years I have a feeling that americans will once again be looking for a more cost effective motor, and the v-10 in their excursion just wont cut it. neither will a v-8 Saab that only gets 20mpg. Throw in a TDI and get the same power and more torque with 35-40+mpg!
Saab had a major part in turbocharging autos to begin with, I bet they could do some pretty cool things with a diesel. Unfortunatly GM doesn't seem to care about diesels, the duramax in the truck was needed to try to save their HD pickup, but Ford has dominated that market, and for good reason! Get your head in the game GM, make a product with features that none of your major competitors have! Saab 9-5TDI AERO to compete with.... who knows! MB?
