The Aisin-Seiki (formerly Aisin-Warner from a defunct JV with Borg-Warner) transmission (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Aisin_transmissions) supplies some 35 major manufacturers and is generally regarded, I believe, as highly reliable. My '06 9-3 Aero automatic exhibits some peculiar characteristics from time-to-time, that could reflect a sticking valve body, a glitch in the adaptive learning capability, or just a requirement for a computer re-flash. I just had my car in for its last free service at about 25K miles, and the dealer is researching my transmission question.

Overall, performance has been fault-free and fully acceptable. It is not as positive as similar transmissions in, say, BMW.

I think your path should be (first step) to document the problem in writing, in very rational terms, and to copy the service manager, dealer ownership, and Saab. If the dealer is convinced that the performance is normal, driving for a week or two should allow the transmission to "learn" your style and adapt. If it continues to behave erratically, you have a problem, and (step two)the dealer needs to act or you act per comments from others re: lemon law.

I think that if you could get this resolved, you'd find the car to be very satisfying. Recent consumer ratings in Europe have shown Saab reliabilty higher than BMW and Mercedes, and my car has been virtually trouble-free. Not sure I'd trade it for any model of Audi, BMW, or Merc, and I've owned all of 'em.

Good luck,

SEN
