Ok, that is burned valves, not broken Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Fri, 5 May 2023 08:36:07 In Reply to: Re: Unusual for sure and pictures would be helpful, seth1065 [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 4 May 2023 12:45:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Not sure why the mechanic would call it broken.
The lack of pitting in the combustion dome tells the story that no loose pieces has been flying around, creating havoc.
What started it all is anyone's guess.
Bad gasoline, bad AMM, spark plugs, performance enhancements that the ECU could not deal with.
If your AMM is bad, leaning out the fuel mixture, so that engine starts to ping, you can create a scenario where this can happen. As soon as exhaust gasses are allowed to sneak through the valve seat, it creates a blow torch condition that melts away metal in a heart beat.
Have you ever seen a welder with a cutting torch? At first before he finds the proper oxygen mix, the metal is solid but might be glowing red. And as soon as the proper Oxygen/Acetylene mixture is found, the metal is spraying away like melted butter.
So the culprit has to be found why it happened. Otherwise it will happen again.
Is this a Saab mechanic and is he fluent in reading AMM correction values during acceleration using the Tech 2 scanner?
