I disagree with your opinion.
It's just not me and a few Saab's. Other mechanics have similar stories to tell with other brand cars where the car develops a slight hiccup and maybe C/E light indicating random misfire but everything looks fine and when asked what gasoline they use and hear Arco or Costco, the mechanic suggest to try 2 tanks of Chevron 91 and if the stumble goes away, they know what it is and then it is up to the customer to decide what they want to do.
Many Volvo's nowadays with an inline 6 cylinder engine where the catalytic converter goes bad way to early and the same thing there. We suggest using Chevron 91 if they tell us they run any of those low grade gas stations and the code P0420 stays away for longer stretches compared to with bad Arco/Costco gas.
My neighbor used to have a 1988 Toyota P/U truck that I borrowed from time to time and I could always tell when he had filled the tank (he swears by Arco) because the engine was pinging badly when accelerating. A tank full of Chevron got rid of the pinging right away.
