The problem Saab saw with steel rims was rust on the hub which reduced the friction between alloy wheels and the hub, allowing the wheels to move slightly, which loosened the lug nuts. I used anti-sieze once on the hubs of my 94 9K aero, on the advice of someone on that board. A couple of months after remounting my alloys, I though I was losing a Rt side cv joint, got a replacement, and found loose lug bolts when I went to remove the wheel. Tightened them up (figuring I must have forgot to torque that rim) and three weeks later had to retorque the other side front. I had checked all of them after the first episode. A month later the right side was loose again. I cleaned off all the anti-sieze and never had a problem again.
I talked to a Saab mechanic and he showed me the bulletin on the 9-5 problem and explained that anti-sieze did the same thing (lowering the friction or bite between the rim and the hub) as the corrosion issue in the bulletin.
