I'll answer some of your questions. The manual transmission is not spectacular. I have one, and if you HAVE to have one, you will be fine. I have seen aftermarket short throw shifter which would be better.
Rust: After living in Maine my whole life, I have tired of fixing rust. I just had the shock towers done on my 9000. I bought my 9-5 in North Carolina, and will continue to shop out of state to limit this. The 9-5s that I have seen in Maine do seem to start rusting behind the rear doors, and around the door bottoms. They don't seem to be as bad as C900.
I paid $10, 000 last year for a 2000 9-5 Aero with 50k located in NC. Folks say that I got ripped off, but it was in spectacular shape with every piece of paperwork since new. I even spent an afternoon in his mechanic's garage looking it over including a sludge check.
Completely subjective: I am not sure how to say this, but you may find something missing when coming from an older Saab. My 9-5 is fun, fast and quiet, but I think my NA 9000 is a better built car, and I just like climbing in it. I guess that I am getting to be an old fuddy dud.
Good luck, Mike
