Hey, this is an area where I can definitely comment. Three weeks ago I bought a 2003 9-5 Aero Wagon I found here on Saabnet. I got an automatic (with paddle shifters) because my search for a 5-speed after two months came up bare except for older stuff with high mileage. My budget was the same as yours via my bank loan, and they wanted to nail me with a higher percentage for a high mileage car. I found one 5-speed in New England but I waited too long and someone else snapped it up.
This is my second 9-5. My last one was a 2003 Aero Sedan. I've had a number of C900s either as my primary car or secondary car, including a 1987 900 turbo convertible airflow which I loved. To this day in my opinion there is no car in the lineup with anything close to the utilitarian functionality of a C900 three door.
But, although I love C900s I got a little tired of the typical issues. The 9-5 is not perfect, as no car is. I bought the book on the design of the 9-5 and was truly amazed at what went in to the design of this car in every possible aspect. It is a well designed car. I have a 2008 9-3 Aero sedan as my company car, and although it handles well and has lots of power, the interior space and overall car doesn't hold a candle to the 9-5 in my opinion. I won't lease another 9-3 with the current design, whether it be paid for by my employer or not.
I think you will really enjoy the 9-5. Like most Saabs, the cup holders stink beyond belief and there isn't enough storage space in the cockpit if you're like me and travel with two cell phones and all the usual stuff.
But still, I love the car. I got a wagon this time for the extra space and although I've only had it 3 weeks, I'm enjoying that very much. Check out my profile photos for pictures of some of my past cars and good luck in your search.
