Is a dedicated snow tire better? Sure. But does it really matter for Central New England winters? Nope. Especially with you living in northern CT, even if you are in the western corner where the mountains are. A full on winter tire is going to be better on ice, but it's not going to be a night and day difference.
I live in southern NH and have run Nokian WR and WR G2 as my winter tires for several winters on both my and a daughter's 9K. On her car we ran them year-round and it spent 3 winters in central-western Maine. I've had my Nokians in blizzards in NH, western MA and upstate NY and they are totally up to the task of New England winters.
Consider that the roads are normally only really bad during a storm and for maybe a day or so afterwards. Then they are pretty much clear. So the WR line is great because it's a very aggressive all season that does a fine job on wet and dry roads--which is most of what we have in New England winters.
