If the 9-5 you're lookikng at checks out--like plenty of oil changes and the PCV 6 mod done, it could be a good car. Some of the older 9-5s were pretty nice--if cared for.
A couple of thots:
We have 2003 9-5 wagon (wife's DD) and a '99 and '00 9-3 --our daughter's cars.
My DD is a '96 9000.
They are all reliable cars and have needed some cash infusions due to age (average mileage on the fleet is 214K). The 9-5 is probably the best of the bunch, only slightly ahead of the 9K, but I prefer the 9K --nothing feels like a 9K. The two 9-3s run OK, but are just cars to me. They have Saab durability, but nothing great. They are not bad to work on, but they kinda leave me cold, partly because they aren't great to drive. One has a aftermarket rear sway bar which helps it handle okay, so it drives better, but it sure isn't a 9K or a 9-5.
I'd buy another 9-5 (or a 9K) but when the 9-3s go on to another owner I won't be looking back.
