Many hold the opinion that the Garrett will fail around 100k, whereas there is more agreement that the Mitsubishi keeps going and going. I've now had two Aeros and two Linears. No issues with the Mitsubishi turbos, but neither car was high mileage. One of the Linears was at about 240k when I recently sold it, and the Garrett had been replaced by the previous owner with a remanufactured cartridge. I had the turbo inspected on the other Linear recently, and it got a clean bill of health. My Saab mechanic says the hate on the Garretts is overblown. After looking at a couple dozen 9-5s to purchase over the years, I tend to agree. The Linears seem to be more likely to be neglected lease cars that have not seen regular oil changes. That will kill any turbo.
Now, whether the LPT has enough oomph for you--that's subjective! It seems plenty fast to me, until I ride in an Aero again....
