holy crap, 2 TB's in 40k?!? Maybe the dealer had not figured out yet that they can be cleaned etc and just figured it was easy to replace... this is why dealer service can be so expensive and not sensible once the car is out of warranty (and why I gave up taking our car to the dealer).
OTOH, one can get a much newer 9-5 now for not much cost, so although I like the looks of the 2001 and earlier models better, I would look for a newer one unless this one has been astonishingly well maintained. Low miles may actually be a concern also depending on how those miles were accrued. Many short trips is especially bad for these cars.
