I miss my 9-5 manual wagon very much. I am thoroughly bored with my non-Saab daily driver now, and am searching weekly for "something" to bring some thrill back to driving again. My Saab had it's issues, for a 212K car, but it was still enjoyable. For me it was the clutch, and then you start thinking, while theyre in there, a replacement trans for those syncros that aren't quite right, and the rubbery linkage, and the axles and trans seals, rear main seal, and on and on. How about that original suspension...wonder what a new set of springs and shocks would feel like. What if the AC fan quits, or the flaps. It was just too much for a 20 year old car. The VW diesel wagons with the 6 speeds do look like a solid choice, with the 5 year emissions warranty. Not fast, but some reviewers say they are reasonably peppy with the diesel torque. Build quality and ergonomics get big thumbs up. What would all the stuff above have cost for the Saab? Probably around 5K to do it right. Or spend 12K on a 2015-2017 VW Sportwagen? Choices.
