There are others on this board far more experienced than I, but since it’s been a day since your post here is some preliminary advice from my experience with four 9-5s over 23 years. First you may want to have the battery checked at an auto parts store as a weak battery can cause all sorts of problems. I have even experienced starting problems caused by corrosion on the terminals so you may also want to pick up one of those cheap terminal cleaner brushes while you are there. They can also check your charging system, provided you can get the car started, to make sure the alternator is charging the battery. I’m thinking you may want to take someone along if you can get the car started because you probably don’t want to shut it off once it’s running until you get back home. The next thing that comes to mind with your symptoms is the crankshaft position sensor. When they are on the way out, they can sometimes work when the car is cold but not when the engine gets hot. Not an expensive part and something you can change yourself if you have some tools and quite a bit of manual dexterity because it’s a little hard to get to the screw. Usually people report that a bad CPS will cause the tachometer needle to not move during cranking. A third item could be a fuel pump and you should be able to hear it run during cranking by picking up the back seat bottom and listening on that round hatch cover under the carpet with the help of an assistant. Unless I’m mistaken, your starting problems don’t have anything to do with the power steering leak or low fluid or the low-octane fuel. Don’t let the power steering fluid run dry because the pump is fairly expensive, and regular gas will make the car feel less powerful, especially on hills, but it should still run fine. Make sure you get the right power steering fluid, check the owner’s manual, because it is not the run of the mill stuff you get anywhere. Good luck.
