You have completely missed the point. There is ZERO intrinsic value in a car. A 250GTO is valuable because a bunch of people agree it is. A 1979 Saab is not valuable because a bunch of people agree that is it. Tom's car is worth $15k when someone writes him a check for $15k. An all original c900 is worth $15k when someone sells one for that. Until that happens, value is 100% speculation. The question "which is more valuable" is a 100% moot, pointless topic - unless you have $15,000 and are shopping for a new old Saab that is. Declaring Tom's car overpriced or blasphemy or anything other than a pretty nice car is just scare tactics, rudeness, and sandbagging.
You want to know who would prefer Tom's car? Me. If I had $15k to blow on a Saab, I would opt for Tom's car over a similarly priced, equal condition, all-original car. In fact, I have one (a 1980 LH-powered 16vT 5-door with new-style doors and 88+ brakes) right this very second sitting in my driveway. Why? Because I wanted to drive my Saab, not worry about when the totally unserviceable water pump or fuel injection system failed or waste time rebuilding my stupid front calipers every 5,000 miles or fretting about the a host of other things that come with owning an old, original car.
File me *squarely* under the Prefers Resto-Mod Category. I drive cars, I don't operate a museum. Originality can suck it. Cars were meant to be used.
